Hundreds of parents, students and alumni were on campus recently to celebrate the opening of two new facilities at Shawnigan Lake School. The ceremonies were held in conjunction with the School"s annual Founders Day and Alumni Reunion weekend. On Friday night, the Arts took the spotlight with the inaugural show in the new Hugh P. Wilkinson Studio Theatre. The building is actually one of the School"s oldest and has functioned as a gym and then an assembly hall. A complete renovation this summer has turned it into a multi-functional theatre with state-of-the-art lighting, rehearsal rooms, offices and plenty of storage. On Saturday morning, attention moved to athletics with the official opening of the Shawnigan Sportsplex. The brand new facility gives the school four squash courts, a double-size gym, a cardio-fitness centre, two new tennis courts and an all-weather turf for field hockey. "With these two new buildings, the school is exceptionally well positioned to deliver the complete, well-rounded education we are famous for," said Headmaster David Robertson.
